History is gay

I have mixed feelings about California Governor Jerry Brown signing the bill that would make lessons about gays and lesbians a part of the social studies curriculum in public schools. The reason why I'm worried about it is because if kids learn that there were gay people in the past, then they might conclude that there will be gay people in the present and possibly even the future. Plus, if they think that the past is full of gay people, they're going to say to themselves, "Ya know what? I think I'll be gay too!" Then everybody is going to be gay, and I'm going to have to watch Glee. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think that Glee is a bad show. I've even watched and enjoyed it a few times with my wife. However, I really resent the idea that the government is going to come into my house and REQUIRE that I watch it lest I have to sit down before a Death Panel.

Okay, in all seriousness, the only concern that I have about this comes from the point of view of a teacher - just exactly how are the teachers going to have to alter their lessons for this new law? History teachers have a lot of ground to cover as it is, and in my opinion, they're not given enough freedom to create their curriculum as it is. Is it just going to be a matter of the textbooks dropping in references here and there? Will the bio on Alexander the Great read: "Alexander the Great was a king of Macedon , a state in the north eastern region of Greece, and by the age of thirty was the creator of one of the largest empires in ancient history, and he was totally gay." I don't have a problem with that. Will it involve including Harvey Milk when it comes to learning about Civil Rights struggles? I'm all for that, as he's an important person whether you think that gays have the same rights as everybody else or you think that DA JEEBUS hates them.

I just hope that the teachers can just mainstream it into the lessons that they already do. I'd rather that they not have to do some kind of special "Gay Week" or something that makes it stand out and twists the collective panties of every parent who thinks that if they don't ever mention gay people around their kids, their kids will never be gay. Gays are a part of history, and it's time we stopped being afraid to acknowledge that. Besides, that will just make it easier for them to pull their kids out of school so they can miss those important lessons.

Of course, the ridiculous thing about all of this is how damned upset the "Won't somebody think of the children?" crowd are getting about this. Apparently, it's "sexual brainwashing". That's a fair point, because I'm sure that if I was told in first grade that T.E. Lawrence preferred dudes to chicks, I'd be like, "Hey, I want to be with a dude too! That guy's totally cool, and they even made a movie out of his life story! I can't wait to marry a man and make passionate love to him!"

And let's be honest about this - if you're adamantly against this, you can hem and haw all you want, but you are, in fact, homophobic. After all, what's so scary about information? What do you think the teachers are going to do? Make the kids draw diagrams of Alexander the Great and Hephaestion doin' it? I mean, we've been learning about straight people and straight couples for a long time, and I don't ever recall the teachers saying, "And don't forget, kids, not only did Teddy Roosevelt fight in the Battle of San Juan Hill, but he preferred to put his penis into a vagina."

The real bottom line is this - no matter what the public schools teach, if you're a parent and you're not the primary influence when it comes to morals on your children, then YOU'VE got a serious problem. Don't worry, your kids can learn all about famous gay people in the past and STILL believe that they're all burning in hell if you just teach 'em right.

Clearly you haven't been in my class when I teach Teddy Roosevelt.

I didn't know until I was in my 30s that Alexander the Great was gay, actually he was bi.... what did I care? That is not what made him famous. Why do people have to know everything that should go on behind closed doors. Will teachers have to teach about Catherine the Great and her horses and other lovers too? Or all the strange sexual appetites people through history had?
I don't like the gay kid in Glee, not because he is gay, but because he looks and talks weird.

I think the point is that a lot of gay kids suffer from harassment and are made to feel like they're second class citizens. Shoot, I remember a teacher in junior high who would make gay jokes in the classroom.

With this, it will show that gay people are a part of society just like everybody else, and that they shouldn't feel marginalized.

The thing is, every time you acknowledge that somebody was married, you're acknowledging what "goes on behind closed doors".

Pedophilia:
Too Disgusting to Discuss,
Too Dangerous Not To

Recently, I learned that an old neighborhood friend, a star high-school athlete who went on to play college baseball, had returned to his hometown, met a 15-year-old boy on-line, drove 1,000 miles to the city where he lived, and sexually assaulted him. Sadly, this sexual predator, who is currently serving several years in prison, was a long-time Little League baseball coach. It is alleged that he assaulted numerous young boys in his hometown, including one of them more than 20 times.

Recently, I received an 11-page, single-spaced letter from a penitent child molester who has been in prison for the past 10 years. Prompted by an article he read from Apologetics Press on the subject of “Homosexuality and Public Education” (see Lyons, 2011), the prisoner (whom I’ll simply refer to as John) began his letter by referring to the “danger inherent in promoting homosexuality (the pro-homosexual agenda) to impressionable children.” He wrote:

When the public school system pushes a pro-homosexual agenda on to young children and says it’s okay for two men or two women to fall in love and live just like a married man and woman, they’re unwittingly helping the pederast with the grooming process. They’re not making children any safer. They’re putting at least the boys at a greater risk. Why? Because school teachers—the most influential people in most children’s lives—are telling them that being “gay” isn’t anything bad. A pederast who lives in an area where a pro-homosexuality agenda is promoted in the public school systems will know this is being taught and will not hesitate in the least to use this to groom and manipulate the boy he wants to molest into a sexual encounter. It’s a foundation (the pro-homosexual agenda) the pederast can and will build upon .

According to John…

“More times than not, the abuser will be someone the child likes (loves) and looks up to. I [John] operated by simultaneously befriending and earning the trust of the parents and the affection, friendship, and loyalty of the little boy I wanted to molest. Tragically, too many parents have a ‘perimeter defense,’ but not a ‘close proximity defense.’ In reference to the boy I’m in prison over, I was able to molest him on numerous occasions with his parents in the other room; just seconds away. On other occasions his parents were outside and my victim and I were alone in the house” (emp. in orig.).
“The goal of grooming (methodically setting up) a young boy for a sexual encounter is to desensitize him to and normalize this type of sexual behavior.” The predator will likely try to “desensitize the boy to the sexual act by couching it in words and in an atmosphere of love and affection.”
Sexual child abusers will “go out of their way to be patient, gentle, kind, and totally non-threatening so that the child will really like him and not feel the least bit threatened in any way by him…. This is another component of that manipulative, coldly calculated process.”
“There are what you think to be ‘harmless’ expressions of affection. What you don’t realize is that the would-be molester [enjoys] holding a little boy, just to touch his body—his skin. That’s why I [John] enjoyed ‘wrestling’ gently with and tickling (ribs, armpits, just above knee-cap, and bottoms of feet) the little boy I molested. This desensitizes the child to the abuser’s touch. Regular, intimate physical contact is normalized by these ‘harmless’ incidents.” That “sets the stage” for (1) references to private parts in humorous contexts, and (2) “accidental” touching of private parts, which often leads to all-out abusive behavior that the perpetrator will couch as much as possible as “innocent enjoyment.”

Leonardo:

Being a homosexual and being a pedophile are two different things. Will there be gay men who seek out teenagers? Yes. But we have that with heterosexual men who seek out teenage GIRLS.

Saying that promoting homosexual rights encourages relationships with underage boys makes just as much sense as saying that promoting heterosexual relationships encourages relationships with underage girls.

As for your little joke, that just makes me think that you're an idiot.
